Thank you to everyone who attended the *first* in-person Modern Love Language Intensive in Denver, CO!
The Modern Love Language Intensive offers clinicians, coaches, and sexuality professionals a deep dive into an updated and expansive approach to the popular "love language" relational theory. Join Speaking from the Heart: 18 Languages for Modern Love author Anne Hodder-Shipp for a friendly and engaging workshop that transforms the popular romance-centered theory into a valuable connection, communication, and rapport-building tool that clients can use in ALL their relationships - not just romantic ones. If you use the love language concept in your work, or your clients bring it up often, this workshop is for you.
This workshop includes interactive exercises, large and small group discussion, skills-building, and more active learning tools.

Want the next Modern Love Language Intensive to happen in your city, state, or province?
This workshop is right for you if:
You feel curious about how you or your clients relate to love — and if it could use an adjustment.
You are tired of the sex-and-romance relationship narrative and want to help people build loving relationships that are on THEIR terms.
Your clients need some help figuring out what those terms might be.
You want to explore — and maybe even reject — various social scripts around dating, love, and connection that commonly come up in your sessions.
You find tools like Attachment Theory or boundary work helpful.
You work with couples and notice that “desire discrepancy” and sexual entitlement issues come up frequently.
You want stronger competency in working with asexual and aromantic people, and anyone with a sexual orientation that might fall along those spectrums.
You want to help “undo” the harms of purity culture, gender roles, heteronormativity, and sexual pathology in your clients’ romantic and sexual relationships.
You want to expand your knowledge and understanding of platonic and queerplatonic relationships, and how important they are for building chosen family and community.
Bodily autonomy, consent culture, and reproductive justice (among other important values) are important to you and your work.
You feel inspired in communal learning (and unlearning) environments with like-minded people.
This program meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 10 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.
Here’s what past attendees had to say about The Modern Love Language Intensive:
Accessibility accommodations (virtual):
We use Zoom to meet online, which does not require an account to join as an attendee.
We use AI-based closed captioning built into the Zoom platform, which shows up as white text on a black background at the bottom of the screen. Attendees can adjust the font size according to their needs.
Each Intensive features a live transcript, which displays what is being said in real-time on the right-hand side of the screen. It has a white background with black text. This transcript can be downloaded as a PDF document to attendees who request it.
Slides feature high-contrast colors, large sans-serif fonts, and image descriptions. They will be available to attendees after the event. Videos will feature closed captioning and/or a transcript.
The text chat is utilized heavily, and attendees are encouraged to participate using the chat if they are unable or do not want to participate verbally.
Anne reads out loud what attendees write in the chat so that it is included in the discussion.
Attendees are not required to have their cameras or microphones on during the training, and they are encouraged to show up to sessions as they are.
Each day features two 10-min breaks, which take place every 90-ish minutes.
Attendees are encouraged to take as many breaks as they need, in addition to scheduled breaks, and they do not need to ask permission to leave the space.
Attendees can eat, drink, stretch, and move as they need throughout The Intensive.

The Intensive features several small group activities and discussions. Please prepare as needed.
Attendees wear nametags. (I do, too!)
Light snacks are available all day.
Audio tape recorders are permitted to those who have trouble hearing or processing speech.
Pump-top bottles of hand sanitizer are at the check-in table each day.
What to do if you are sick with a cold, flu, or COVID (in-person):
If you actively have symptoms, including sneezing, coughing, or a stuffy nose, you must take a COVID test and bring the results with you. You must show negative for COVID.
If you actively have symptoms but do not have COVID, you must wear a mask in the building.
Please be conscious about being around people sick with COVID, norovirus, the flu, or other viral illnesses in the week leading up to the Intensive.
If you are flying in for the Intensive, please wear a mask in the airport and on the plane.
If you are asymptomatic but may have been exposed to viruses, you are welcome and encouraged to take a COVID test, bring the results with you, and wear a mask during the Intensive. (You must show negative for COVID.)
These precautions are important and appreciated SO much. As someone who has been disabled by long COVID, and also prioritizes community care and interdependence, I rely on attendees of my in-person events to make these efforts. It also makes it safer for people to attend.
To me, this communicates to me a deep sense of love and respect. Dare I say they are also examples of several Modern Love Languages, including Accountability, Acts of Empathy, Solidarity, and Teamwork!
If you have disability accommodations that are not listed above, you must give me 45 days’ notice via email at anne@annehodder.com.
Refund policy:
Cancellations can be made for a full refund until 7 days of the Intensive. Please email me at anne@annehodder.com to cancel. (Refunds typically take 5-10 days to show up in your account.)
Cancellations made within 7 days of the Intensive, or after the Intensive has begun, are not eligible for a refund.
